Hurtigruten has extended its Northern Lights Promise, which guarantees travellers will be able to take another cruise if they fail to see the Aurora Borealis first time round.

The guarantee, which applies to voyages of 11 days or more, will now be effective from mid-September, rather than October.

Passengers who don’t see the Northern Lights on their first trip will get a complimentary six-day southbound or seven-day northbound Original Coastal Express Classic Voyage.

CEO Hedda Felin said: “We firmly believe that Norway is the best place to experience the Northern Lights and that our coastal cruises offer the best way to explore Norway.

“We are thrilled to extend our Northern Lights Promise sailing period, allowing more guests to immerse themselves in the magic of the Aurora Borealis.

“This commitment reflects our unwavering dedication to providing exceptional experiences and ensuring that every journey with Hurtigruten is truly extraordinary.”

Hurtigruten will continue to offer select astronomer-hosted sailings in the 2025/26 season following their successful introduction last year.

The line has also announced it has appointed Northern Lights astronomer, Tom Kerss as its ‘Chief Aurora Chaser’. Tom will act as an onboard expert on selected voyages, offering talks, webinars, workshops and activities for guests.
