Advantage Travel CEO Julia Lo Bue-Said is calling on the Government to ensure there is ‘accurate and easily available’ information on passport rules amid claims that 200 people a day miss their flights because theirs are no longer valid.

Passport rules for travel to the European Union have changed since Brexit, but research by The Independent newspaper has found that many travellers are unaware.

It found that potentially 32 million people with the old red passports could fall foul of the new rules.

Julia said: “The reports that an estimated 32 million British passport holders could potentially be negatively affected by post-Brexit rules on passport validity when travelling to the EU is yet another example of the major impact that Brexit has had.”

She added: “The UK Government needs to focus its attention on is ensuring there is accurate and easily available information on passport rules and we as an industry need to ensure that we are helping customers identify potential issues as early as possible.

“This is yet another reason why we would advise booking through a travel agent. Travel agents deal with travel all day every day and are best placed to give the most up to date advice and information to travellers.”
