The Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its advice for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), warning British travellers that terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in the Gulf region.

The warning was issued on Monday evening (25 March) and said attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.

It added: “Terrorists continue to issue statements threatening to carry out attacks in the Gulf region. These include references to attacks on western interests, including against UK citizens.”

According to the FCDO, targets may include areas such as restaurants, hotels, beaches and shopping centres among places of worship, aviation interests, transport and military sites.

Travellers have been told to maintain ‘a high level of security awareness’, particularly in public places and at public events.
