Delays to the planned refurbishment of P&O Cruises’ Iona has resulted in the cancellation of two cruises next year.

Iona had originally been due for a refit in March 2025, but this has been pushed back to October. The delay means a 14-night Canary Islands cruise on 4 October and a seven-night Northern Europe cruise on 18 October have been cancelled.

Reasons for the delay are not been disclosed, but Cruise Hive reported passengers received an email from P&O Cruises which read: “We’re really sorry to inform you that your holiday departing 18 October 2025 is no longer going to be possible due to a necessary reschedule of Iona’s planned refit.”

Passengers on the 4 October sailing are understood to have received the same message. Affected passengers will be being offered a full refund and £100 per person onboard credit for a new cruise, according to Cruise Hive.

It is not yet known if P&O Cruises will add new sailings for the original refurbishment dates in March.  Iona currently arrives back in Southampton on 13 March 2025 and the next scheduled departure is on 1 April 2025.

Travel Gossip has contacted P&O Cruises for comment.
