Newmarket Holidays is offering a rail-and-land tour of the Scottish Highlands, with departures available in September and October this year.

The seven-night Royal Caledonian Tour starts with an overnight train journey from London on the Caledonian Sleeper.

Passengers can visit Balmoral (pictured), which has been a royal residence since 1852; Loch Ness; a whisky distillery, the UK’s only working cooperage, where casks and barrels are made, and the Cairngorms Mountain Visitor Centre in Aviemore.

In addition, on the Strathspey Railway, passengers can visit the Spey River, moorland and forest.

Guided tours of seaside town Nairn, Ballater village, Inverness and Edinburgh have also been included in the itinerary.

Prices start from £883 per person, including a 10% saving that is available on the operator’s Scenery and Nature tours until 2 May.

Accommodation, travel, attractions and some breakfasts and dinners are included in the price.
