Leger Holidays has launched a bespoke The Great Escaper tour, based on locations and the story featured in a new film of the same name.
The film, which premieres on 20September, is based on the true-life story of WWII veteran Bernard Jordan who staged a ‘great escape’ from his care home to attend the 70th anniversary commemorations of the D-Day Landings – making global headlines.
The film stars Michael Caine as Bernie, and the late Glenda Jackson, as Bernie’s wife Irene Jordan.
The film goes on general release in cinemas across the UK on 6 October.
The Leger Holidays five-day Great Escaper tour starts in Portsmouth with a visit to the D-Day Story, before moving to France, accompanied by a specialist battlefield tour guide, to visit historical sites connected to the landings, including the key Sword, Juno, Gold and Omaha beaches.
Pegasus Bridge, Mulberry Harbour and the Battlefields around Caen are also on the itinerary, as are the British Normandy Memorial and the Bayeux War Cemetery.
The tour is priced from £649 per person and includes coach travel from the UK, with regional coach departures, hotels in Portsmouth and Normandy, continental breakfast and all visits on the itinerary.
To promote the film’s general release and Leger Holidays’ bespoke tour, the company has wrapped one of its coaches in a bold design, showcasing the official The Great Escaper film poster and the front cover of the Leger Holidays Battlefield Tours brochure.
