Tourists visiting the island of Zanzibar in Tanzania will be obliged to buy travel insurance for $44 each from 1 October.
The policy must be bought online from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation for the duration of their stay.
Policies will be available to buy from 1 September from the Visit Zanzibar website.
The Foreign Office is warning that visitors might be refused entry if they haven’t bought the insurance, even if they have their own travel insurance policy.
The Zanzibar Insurance Corporation policy covers emergencies, such as medical evacuations and repatriation. Family policies will be available.
