US actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have confirmed United Airlines as the new shirt sponsor of Wrexham AFC.
The co-chairmen revealed the partnership with the US airline in a video on Twitter.
The carrier’s name and logo will be displayed on Wrexham’s shirts from the beginning of next season, for the men’s and women’s teams.
“We seek out sponsors that match the spirit of both Wrexham Association Football Club and the people of Wrexham,” the pair said, in a statement.
“The team, town and fans around the world are united as never before and United Airlines is committed to elevating our story and journey.”
United Airlines Chief Communications Officer Josh Earnest said: “The story of Wrexham AFC and their fans represents the best of what professional sports has to offer.
“The passion and perseverance of this team on the rise has captured the imagination of people in the US and around the world.
“When the Wrexham AFC players deliver even more heart-pumping moments this season, we couldn’t be prouder that United Airlines will be written across their chests.”
He added: “We’re also excited to partner with the team and their co-chairmen across social media and on their hit TV show as the incredible story of this team and its loyal fans continues to unfold.”
This summer, Wrexham players will fly away on their US tour with United Airlines. The trip will be the first time the club’s first team squad has travelled to play in the US.
To coincide with the announcement, Ryan and Rob hilariously tried to explain why a tweet had been posted appearing to show they had changed the name of the club to Wrexham United.
Ryan said: “We would never do that,” before Rob chipped in, saying: “It’s probably illegal anyway.”
