Forest fires raging in the Algarve have come close to popular resorts including Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo.

Video footage posted on social media shows the huge blaze perilously close to luxury villas in Quinta on Wednesday afternoon, leaving agents fearful for clients in the resort.

According to posts on social media, firefighters have been battling since early this morning to bring the fires under control.

Travel Gossip understands that holidaymakers were evacuated from Pestana Vila Sol in Vilamoura.

A video posted on Twitter shows helicopters scooping up water from the sea to douse the flames.

Fires are also raging in areas close to Lisbon, including Palmela and Leiria.
