Venice is pushing ahead with plans for a €5 entry fee for tourists next year.
The fee is being introduced on certain days during 2024 to see if it helps manage the flow of tourists into the city.
It will be applied on a trial basis on only 30 days. These are expected to be on the busiest bank holidays and summer weekends.
Councillor Simone Venturini said the aim is to ‘find a new balance between the rights of those who live, study or work in Venice and those who visit the city’.
The plan was first put forward in 2019, but was postponed due to COVID.
