Two men have been arrested over terrorism offences as they were about to board a plane at London’s Heathrow Airport.

West Midlands Police said the men, aged 30 and 66, both from Birmingham, were detained at the airport under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on Thursday, 16 February. 

They were arrested under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorism.

The men were later taken to a police station in the West Midlands to be questioned.

An address in Birmingham is due to be searched, police added.
