Almost 800 TUI staff have temporarily worked from abroad since the travel giant introduced its flexible ‘workwide’ policy.

Staff are allowed to spend up to 30 working days a year based anywhere in the world.

So far, its staff has spent a total of 10,000 days working abroad in 82 countries.

On average, those who have taken up the opportunity under the TUI Workwide programme have spent 8.5 days working abroad.

“The past two years have shown that virtual cooperation is efficient and also works well across national borders,” said TUI Group HR Director Sybille Reiß.

“At the same time, we also see that the office workplace continues to play an important role. This is where TUI’s corporate culture can be experienced, creative processes are easier to organise and spontaneous exchanges with colleagues are more successful.

“Flexibility in terms of work location and working hours on the one hand, offices as a place for collaboration and exchange on the other – both concepts belong together for TUI and complement each other.”

TUI staff in Germany are particularly active users of TUI Workwide, followed by staff from the UK and Spain.

Spain tops the list of countries from which TUI employees work, but Italy, France and Greece are also popular places to set up the flexible office – as are Peru, Curacao and the Dominican Republic, said TUI.

Staff are allowed to work from any country they choose, with the proviso that ‘the job profile allows for it, the stay is agreed with the manager and doesn´t impact the wider team, and the conditions on site are right’.

TUI said employees can work from ‘almost anywhere’ on a temporary basis.
