TUI has cancelled five flights due to operate to Skiathos on Friday, despite the island’s mayor insisting it’s safe for tourists.

In a statement, TUI said it will fly empty planes to the Greek island tomorrow to bring back customers at the end of their holiday.

It added: “We fully appreciate the challenging circumstance in Skiathos due to the weather situation, and our priority remains the safety of our customers.”

Jet2 had previously cancelled all flights and holidays to Skiathos until 12 September.

TUI said it is monitoring the weather forecast and will be in contact with customers with a travel update as soon as possible for those due to travel next Monday, but customers who no longer wish to go to Skiathos can amend their holiday for free with a 10% rebooking incentive.
