The Foreign Office is warning hurricane conditions are possible along the entire east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula from tomorrow.
Deadly Hurricane Berly is heading towards Cancun and other Mexican resorts after hurtling through the Caribbean, killing at least eight people.
The Foreign Office said: “A hurricane warning has been announced for the entire east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, including Cancun, Tulum, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen.
“A tropical storm warning is in place across the north and west coast of the Yucatan, from Campeche to Holbox.”
It added: “You should closely monitor local and international weather updates from the US National Hurricane Center and follow the advice of local authorities and your tour operator, including any evacuation orders.”
The Foreign Office warned flights to and from Cancun Airport might be cancelled at short notice. Multiple flights, including many from the US due this morning, have already been grounded. Tulum Airport has closed until midday on 7 July and ferries have been suspended until Saturday.
Beryl has lost some of its power and is now a category three storm, but the Foreign Office said it had still caused ‘some disruption’ as it passed over the Cayman Islands yesterday.
In Jamaica, which was hit by Beryl earlier this week, Montego Bay airport has reopened and Kingston airport will reopen at 5pm today, but visitors are being urged to check their accommodation is open before leaving home.
