There was a huge jump in the number of people securing new jobs in the travel industry last month, according to recruitment company C&M.

It said there were more than twice the number of job vacancies in July than in the previous pre-pandemic high set last June.

And the number of people who found new jobs last month was up 57% on the previous month. The figure for the three months to the end of July was up 152% compared to the previous quarter.

The number of people looking for work in July was 51% higher than in the previous month and 90% higher than in June 2019, added the recruitment firm.

C&M Director Barbara Kolosinska said: “We’ve seen a positive upward trend for a number of months now and, thankfully, this momentum is continuing to build.

“This is the first time in a year and half that we have seen candidate and vacancy numbers both rise above their pre-pandemic averages and that’s truly wonderful to see after so many tough months.

“Many travel companies have recently begun recruiting again in order to cope with increased levels of demand, and it’s very encouraging to see that increasing numbers of travel candidates now feel confident enough to look at their careers and assess the great opportunities available to them in our industry.”
