The Suffolk town of Leiston has a walk-in travel retailer once more, after East of England Co-op re-opened its agency more than two years after the pandemic forced it to close.

The travel branch, located in the East of England Co-op food store in Sizewell Road, closed in early 2021, meaning the closest East of England Co-op Travel branches were in Ipswich and Felixstowe, 25 and 30 miles away respectively.

East of England Co-op Travel decided to re-open the Leiston branch after reporting sales in the eastern region up 42.5% on last year.

The branch opened on 9 November, managed by Danielle Newcombe, who has been promoted from her previous role as a Travel Consultant at the Ravenswood travel branch in Ipswich.

She’s been joined by two new members of staff, Cheryl Arnold and Amy Wright, who are new to the travel industry.

Danielle told Travel Gossip: “It’s really exciting to be managing the re-opened branch, which was forced to close during COVID. We were the only walk-in agency for a long time in the town and the locals are thrilled we’re back. Customers that used to book with us have been coming in saying they will definitely use us from now on. We’ve already sold some tours and other holidays.

“My new team members are brand new to travel and it is a lot for them to take in, but they are learning fast.”

East of England Co-op COO Andy Rigby said: “In a difficult economy we are pleased that for many, holidays and travel remain an exciting way to spend leisure time.

“Our travel business is in growth, which has given us the opportunity to bring our branch back to Leiston, an area not being served by any other travel business.”
