The Foreign Office is warning of floods in several cities in South Africa including Cape Town, from tomorrow.

It said a level eight out of 10 warning from the South Africa Weather Service for ‘disruptive’ rain also covers Drakenstein and Stellenbosch.

The Foreign Office travel update says: “Following heavy rains, there is a risk of localised flooding.

“Rain is forecast to continue until Friday 12 July, with possible further disruption thereafter.”

Tourists are being advised to stay away from rivers ‘where possible’ and not to drive through large pools of water.

Already, nearly 1,000 homes in informal settlements in Cape Town have been destroyed by gales, making around 4,000 people homeless.
