Designer Travel Head of Sales and Commercial Darren Bien has issued a ‘massive thank you’ to locals on Rhodes after he and his family were evacuated to a school because of the wildfires.
Darren, who is on holiday with his wife, 16-year-old son and his son’s friend, were evacuated from Pefkos to a school in the north of the island.
In a video update, Darren said: “The evacuation was very, very well handled by the Greek Government – they were amazing.
“They told us what was happening, we had texts coming through to our phone. We were bussed up there in a very safe, coordinated manner.
“The local people were just unbelievable. To say we were looked after was an understatement.
“We watched a stream of people constantly pulling up in their cars to donate gifts to the tourists, even though they didn’t need to.
“I have to say a massive thank you to all the people in Rhodes because the Greeks have just been so hospitable and made us all feel like part of the family. They couldn’t have done more.”
In the video, Darren also gave an update on the current situation and said the family is now back in Pefkos ‘to restart our holiday and to have a fantastic time’.
