Not Just Travel has described how the ‘dam has finally burst’ following the lifting of COVID restrictions with the network claiming a one-day sales record since the pandemic began.

The homeworking group said bookings on Monday were 50% above those of the same day in 2020 and triple those of 2021. They were also 40% above last Monday, which itself had set a record in the COVID era.

One consultant, Gilly Bachelor (pictured), secured bookings worth more than £50,000 in a single day, earning over £5,000 in commission.

Not Just Travel Co-found Steve Witt said: “The dam has finally burst for the travel industry as bookings are flooding in. Since the pandemic started, all our efforts and training has been for this moment.”

“We are simply beating record after record. We expect next Monday to be even more phenomenal, as people will have been paid and consumer confidence is booming.”

Not Just Travel Partnership Manager Dave Pope said travel is entering a ‘new era’ where clients are ‘relaxed, confident and ambitious’.

“People are booking bigger and more expensive holidays as obstacles are consistently removed,” he said.

“Should travel restrictions ever need to be reimposed on travel, the positivity is already in place as consumers see the value in using a travel consultant who can hold their hand and guide them through the complexities of travel forms and testing.

“We have proved our worth through the harshest of times.”

The Maldives, USA, Spain, Dubai and Greece are selling particularly well, the agency said.

Ms Bachelor said her sales bonanza was driven by high value bookings to South Africa and Mozambique, Florida and Universal Studios Hotels, along with a group holiday to Ibiza.

“One of my specialisms is South Africa, so it’s brilliant news that the country has opened up again; there’s a lot of pent-up demand,” she said.
