Miles Morgan Travel has dubbed last Saturday ‘Super Duper Sunshine Saturday’, after the company hit its best sales day in its 16-year-history.

CEO Miles Morgan said January 2023 has been the agency group’s best month so far, with sales building on the two Saturdays after 7 January, which is widely seen as the busiest day for travel bookings and is known as Sunshine Saturday.

Miles tweeted at the weekend to say: “Sunshine Saturday was followed last week by Super Sunshine Saturday and today Super Douper [sic] Sunshine Saturday.

“This month is proving holidays are key to life and people’s wellbeing and they are prioritised at all times when travel is possible.

“Travel really is back and healthy.”

Miles told Travel Gossip: “We’ve had record days and record weeks this month, with 21 January the best in our 16-year history.

“Sunshine Saturday was really busy, the following Saturday even more so and last Saturday busier still. What’s not to like about that?

“My feeling, having spoken to industry people recently, is that it’s clear everyone is having a good time, which is wonderful news.

“The industry deserves it as it’s been a hard three years.

“There’s no doubt that it’s driven by a substantial amount of new clients – many of who have had dreadful service by the OTAs and airlines during the pandemic – coupled with the fantastic face-to-face service provided by my staff.

“We’re absolutely delighted with trading in January and it’s wonderful news for our staff who are earning commission.

“But it’s not just about me and my business and my staff, it is so good for the broader industry.”

Expectations are also high for the last Saturday of the month, 28 January.

Miles predicted: “I think it will be a strong Saturday.

“My expectation is it won’t beat last Saturday, but if you’d asked me the night before how I thought last Saturday would have been, I would have said we will have a strong day, but I would not have expected it to be our best ever.”
