Silversea Cruises has pushed back the launch of its new ship, Silver Nova.

The ship will launch a month later than planned, with the cruise line now expecting Silver Nova to join the fleet on 14 August 2023.

President and CEO Roberto Martinoli blamed ‘worldwide issues’ affecting construction.

He made the announcement during the traditional steel cutting ceremony at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany for Silver Ray, which will be a sister ship to Silver Nova.

The Nova-class ships are set to become the world’s first low-emissions cruise ships, the company says.

He said: “We are proud to have started constructing Silver Ray in collaboration with Meyer Werft, as we continue to push boundaries in sustainable cruise travel.

“The launch of the Nova class represents a giant leap forward in this regard and we are introducing pioneering technologies.

“Given the worldwide issues that have affected the construction of Silver Nova, it has been decided to amend her launch date by approximately one month – in order to uphold the signature level of experience that our discerning guests have come to expect when travelling with Silversea.”

Guests affected by the revised launch date will get a refund, future cruise credit or 10% off an alternative voyage if booked before the end of this month.
