This is what cruising could look like in the year 2100.

Shipbuilding firm Meyer Group unveiled the image to illustrate how it views the future of ship design.

The group believes passengers will walk through urban gardens filled with trees, which will be closed off from the elements by glass.

The concept development team also believe ships will have drone landing pads.

Ship restaurants of the future will also be smaller than they are today, according to Meyer Group Head of Concept Development Tim Krug.

“We have only provided for small restaurant areas that serve more as social meeting places,” he told an audience at Seatrade Cruise Global in Fort Lauderdale, Florida last week.

“We imagine that a large part of the nutrients will be consumed in concentrated form like pills.”

The company’s shipyards are currently building Silversea Cruises’ Silver Nova, Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas and TUI Cruises ship Mein Schiff 7.
