Saudi Arabia has added the UK to the list of countries who are can apply for an instant online tourist visa.

The e-visa is available to British passport holders as well as permanent residents in the UK.

Holders of Schengen visas as well as US passport holders and residents have also been added to the eligibility list.

The e-visa is valid for one-year and allows multiple entry for visits of up to 90 days.

It allows visitors to take part in tourism-related activities and Umrah (excluding Hajj).

Other activities, including studying, are not allowed.

The easing of visa restrictions is part of Saudi Arabia’s plan to reach 100 million tourists a year by 2030. The kingdom attracted 93.5m last year, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Applications for a tourist visa can be made via the Visit Saudi website.
