Seats on a new non-stop SAS service from London Heathrow to Luleå in Swedish Lapland have gone on sale.

The flights will operate from 9 December 2022 to 13 March 2023.

Tour operators Artisan Travel, Discover the World and Sunvil are offering Lapland packages using the SAS service to Luleå, which is a popular area to see the Northern Lights.

It will be operated by a 180-seat Airbus A320neo.

Swedish Lapland Visitors Board, Luleå Airport and Luleå Business Region have been working together for many years to establish a direct flight from the UK, which was delayed two years due to the pandemic.

It was originally due to operate from London Stansted, starting in December 2020.

SAS Head of Sales Theres Briger said: “We are facing a new more positive situation this year. Last winter there were major restrictions in the UK in connection with the pandemic. We see that tour operators are showing great interest in this exciting region. Travellers are looking for new more sustainable and close-to-nature experiences. 

“Together with the partners in the region we look forward to bringing customers to Sweden and Luleå.” 

Flights will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.
