Saga has reported the launch of its 2024/25 ocean cruise season was its strongest on record.

Around 34% of the over-50s travel and insurance specialist’s ocean cruise capacity has been sold for next year.

It added that it remains on track to deliver £40 million profit for each of its two ocean-going ships, excluding overheads, after the 2024/25 programme went on sale at the end of March.

Load factor for 2023/24 ocean cruises was 79% on 18 June, seven percentage points ahead of the same point last year.

Group CEO Euan Sutherland said: “Four months into the financial year, we have continued to build on the momentum in our cruise and travel operations, while making further progress in our growth agenda.

“Year-end underlying profit is expected to be well ahead of the prior year.

“We have taken strong bookings for our ocean cruises with a load factor that is ahead of the same point in the prior year.”

He added the firm’s river cruise and travel businesses were ‘on track to return to profitability’.

As of 18 June, the load factor for Saga’s river cruises was 74%.

This equates to £39m in revenue, which was 37% ahead of the same point last year.

The booked revenue for Saga’s touring products was £150m on 18 June, around 37% ahead of the same point in 2022.

Saga’s touring products are ‘on track to return to an underlying profit before tax’ for the second half and full year, in line with previous guidance.
