Ryanair has cancelled a number of flights tomorrow because of planned strikes at Italian airports.
Bologna Guglielmo Marconi, Milano Malpensa, Milando Linate, Roma Fiumicino and Venezia Marco Polo airports are most likely to be affected by the strike, which will include walkouts by ground security and baggage handlers.
Workers will strike from 23:59 tonight (23 September) to 23:59 on 24 September.
Ryanair said: “Due to a ground handling strike affecting Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Olbia (OLB), Milan Malpensa (MXP), and Bologna (BLQ) airports on Tues 24 Sept, we have been forced to cancel a small number of flights to/from these airports and make schedule changes to a small number of others. Passengers affected by these cancellations/schedule changes have been notified of their options via email.
“Additionally, we are monitoring potential delays for flights to/from the affected airports on Tues 24 Sept as a result of the strike. Passengers affected by delays will be notified via the Ryanair app.
“We ask all passengers due to travel to/from Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Olbia (OLB), Milan Malpensa (MXP), Bologna (BLQ) airports on Tues 24 Sept to keep an eye on the Ryanair app for the latest updates on your flight. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this strike, which is outside of our control.”
EasyJet said: “EasyJet is aware of the 24 hours industrial actions in Italy on Tuesday, 24 September. Like all airlines operating to and from Italy, easyJet may experience some disruption to its flying programme.
“We advise customers travelling on the day to check the status of their flights on our Flight Tracker page or manage their bookings using our disruption portal on our mobile app or website at www.easyjet.com/(Your flight number). Customers on affected flights will also be contacted directly via SMS and email via the details provided at the time of booking. Any customers affected by cancellations are eligible for a refund or a free of charge transfer to a new flight.
“Although this is outside of our control, we would like to apologise to all our customers for any inconvenience caused and would like to reassure them we are doing all possible to minimise any disruption as a result of the strike action.”
