Ryanair has launched its biggest ever summer schedule from Edinburgh, where it will base two additional aircraft, increasing its fleet to 10.

Five of the aircraft will be its new Boeing 737 ‘Gamechanger’ (MAX) jets, which have 4% more seats than its older planes.

The airline will operate 65 routes from Edinburgh, including eight new destinations of Bari, Cork, Madrid, Marrakesh, Nimes, Palermo, Paris and Santiago.

In total it will offer 250 flights a week, 50 more than in summer 2019.

The airline will also launch new routes from Leeds Bradford to Barcelona, Paris and Zadar, giving it 23 in total and over 95 flights a week.

Announcing the expansion, Ryanair repeated its call for Air Passenger Duty to be scrapped, saying the UK Government’s proposed 50% reduction for 2023 was ‘too little too late for post-COVID recovery’.

Edinburgh Airport’s CEO Gordon Dewar said Ryanair’s expansion was a ‘huge show of confidence in the Edinburgh market’.
