The US Coast Guard has opened an investigation into Royal Caribbean after confirming Rhapsody of the Seas was the ship which was blamed for wrecking Elon Musk’s rocket launch.

The SpaceX shuttle was due to lift off from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Sunday but was aborted with seconds to go after a cruise liner strayed into a no go zone.

The US Coast Guard has confirmed media reports that the ship was a Royal Caribbean vessel.

“We can confirm the cruise ship was Harmony of the Seas. The Coast Guard is actively investigating Sunday’s cruise ship incursion and postponement of the SpaceX launch,” USCG spokesperson David Micallef was widely quoted as saying.

Another cruise ship, MS Meraviglia was also in the area but remained outside the no go area.

Travel Gossip has approached Royal Caribbean for comment.

Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer John Murray said the incident had been “outside of our control”.

The rocket ship, Falcon 9, successfully blasted off on Monday.
