Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises have dropped mandatory mask rules for all onboard staff.

A statement released by the Royal Caribbean Group to crew members on 3 October said: “We are happy to announce that from today masks are optional for crew. If you are willing to wear mask, it should be with the company’s logo. This is a huge step towards our return to normal life. The decision to wear a mask is up to every crew member.”

The new policy applies to all areas onboard, including both indoor and outdoor spaces as well as public and crew-only areas.

The news comes days after Norwegian Cruise Line removed its COVID restrictions for guests.

Silversea Cruises, the third cruise line operated by Royal Caribbean Group, still requires its onboard staff to wear masks.
