Wizz Air made a €61.1m net profit in the three months to the end of June, reversing last year’s loss of €452.5m.

It carried a record 15m passengers during the period, up 25% on the same period of 2022.

Announcing the first quarter results, Chief Executive József Váradi said: “Summer is going well operationally and from a revenue perspective.

“We have made significant progress against our main objectives of reinstating best in class profitability at the back of delivering high-capacity growth and improving operational metrics during the quarter.”

Last week, the Civil Aviation Authority took enforcement action against the airline after passengers complained they had not been refunded for expenses caused by flight delays and cancellations.

Wizz has since agreed to automatically review rejected claims submitted on or after 18 March 2022, and passengers whose earlier claims were rejected by the airline can request their cases be reopened.
