Princess Cruises has postponed the debut of its next Sphere class ship, Star Princess.

It said that following a ‘comprehensive review’ of its construction milestones with ship builder Fincantieri, it has decided to delay delivery by two months.

The new ship will now not join the Princess fleet until 26 September 2025, meaning nine inaugural cruises have been cancelled.

“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” said Princess Cruises President John Padgett.

The new inaugural cruises will be an 11-day roundtrip from Barcelona, on 4 October 2025, and a seven-day Mediterranean sailing on 15 October.

Star Princess will then sail to Fort Lauderdale in Florida to begin a Caribbean season.

The three new cruises will open for sale on 30 April 2024.

Guests who are booked on the cancelled cruises will be given the option to rebook on another Princess ship with future cruise- and onboard credits, or cancel with a full refund.

Princess will protect travel agent commissions on all bookings that have been paid in full.
