Police in Athens are investigating after a 22-year-old British man died when he walked into the rotor blades of a helicopter he’d just disembarked.
The man, who has been named as Jack Fenton, was reportedly travelling in the helicopter with three friends and had returned from Mykonos, landing at a helipad in Spata, Athens, on Monday evening.
A second helicopter, carrying the parents of one of his friends, was travelling behind and the holidaymakers were on their way to Athens International Airport, from where they were due to return to the UK.
A police official told The Times Mr Fenton was the first to disembark the helicopter and, as he moved to the back, he was hit in the head by the aircraft’s small rear rotor.
It’s been reported he may have been taking a photo or selfie at the time.
The pilot has since been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and two ground technicians have also been detained.
The second helicopter was reportedly diverted to another airfield in Spata immediately after the accident.
