Frankfurt Airport has warned of further disruption today after climate activists glued themselves to one of its taxiways.
The action by six protestors from the group Last Generation forced the temporary closure of Frankfurt’s runway early this morning.
Dozens of flights had to be diverted to other airports early this morning, while Lufthansa’s departures to London and Birmingham were among those that had to be cancelled. British Airways’ departure to London was delayed by two hours.
The airport was fully operational again by 7.50am, but passengers are being urged to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport as it warned that ‘further delays and cancellations can be expected’.
The protests in Frankfurt came 24 hours after climate activists staged a series of demonstrations at other European airports, including at Cologne-Bonn, where they managed to ground flights yesterday morning.
