Customers whose flight from Rhodes to Manchester was delayed by almost 27 hours due to a faulty plane say they received ‘disgusting treatment’ at the hands of Ryanair.

Flight FR9077 was due to depart from Rhodes at 9.30pm on Friday evening, but after reaching the tarmac passengers were told to return to the terminal building as the plane was faulty.

They were eventually taken to emergency hotels for the night and told the flight would leave at 1pm the next day, but after two hours waiting on the Boeing 737-800, passengers were again told to return to the airport.

Some took to social media to complain, with one saying that Ryanair had refused to provide free water while they waited on the plane with no aircon and temperatures of 40 degrees.

Customers were only able to buy one small bottle of water each, she wrote, adding: “Airline will not pay to uplift water for us all. Disgusting and inhumane.”

Another said it was ‘absolutely appalling’ they’d been given no water, on a plane without aircon.

Other accused Ryanair of a lack of communication and others said they’d only been given food and drink vouchers for a maximum of €8 each for the near-27 hour delay, despite not receiving any breakfast in the hotel.

The flight eventually took off at 12.39pm, 27-hours behind schedule, and landed in the UK just before 3am on Sunday morning.

In a statement, Ryanair said the flight had been delayed overnight due to a ‘minor technical issue’ with the aircraft. It said overnight accommodation was provided for all affected passengers and five sets of vouchers were issued.

It added: “Any claims that passengers were not updated are completely false, as all passengers received regular updates via SMS/email.

“Ryanair sincerely apologises to affected passengers for the inconvenience caused.”
