Liz Truss has reiterated her support for the future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport in her first Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons.
The PM said new Transport Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan would ‘make sure we do protect those airports and vital infrastructure and connectivity that helps our economy grow’.
She was responding to a question by Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher, who asked her to remind DSA owner Peel Group and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (formerly the Sheffield City Region) ‘of their duties and responsibilities to the people of South Yorkshire’.
Peel Group announced two months ago DSA’s future was in doubt, after Wizz Air pulled its services from the airport.
Ms Truss told the Commons: “Regional airports, including Doncaster Sheffield Airport, are a vital part of our economic growth.
“What I will make sure is that the new Transport Secretary is immediately on to this issue.”
Last month, Ms Truss called for DSA to remain open.
