A businesswoman who set up a travel agency during COVID has taken on a new member of staff to deal with a backlog of enquiries.

Entrepreneur Kelly Haston (pictured above) set up Aspire Travel in the summer of 2021, with ambitious plans to make it the ‘leading travel agency in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk’.

She already runs Aspire Recruitment, which she set up in 2008, and Aspire HR, launched four years later. All three businesses currently operate from a business park in Cambridge, but Kelly wants to expand the travel division to a high-street presence.

Kelly said: “I tend to spot business idea – I started recruitment in a recession. Everyone thought I was crazy starting a travel company last year.”

She set the business up as part of Not Just Travel. At the time, NJT was only looking to take on people with travel experience, but Kelly impressed the directors with her track record of making money out of new opportunities.

She added: “On 4 January 2022, I sat here thinking: ‘I have got no bookings. How am I ever going to make this a viable business?’

“But business has exploded in the past three months. I can’t service the backlog on my own.”

Kelly has recruited former Premier Travel Branch Supervisor Clare Riola to the newly created position of Head of Travel.

Clare said: “I’m very excited to be joining such a vibrant and ambitious company as consumers and the travel industry start to book more travel and confidence returns.”

Clare had been with Premier Travel for 20 years and is Aspire Travel’s first hire.
