Suppliers have come together to celebrate the second National Travel Agent Day with exclusive discounts, competitions and promotions.

Operators say today’s event is about thanking front-line staff and remembering the industry is built on partnerships.

Intrepid Travel Head of Business Development and Partnerships Joanna Reeve (pictured) said: “Today’s the day different suppliers come together and celebrate those at the coalface. It’s the pick-me-up the whole industry needs. There hasn’t been an awful lot to celebrate recently.

“The message is really all about just trying to enjoy the day, have some fun and remembering that one of the most important and special parts of the industry is the people in it and our ability to get together.”

Gold Medal Sales Director Nick Hughes used National Travel Agent Day to praise agents for their resilience and spirit during the pandemic, and the ‘unwavering dedication’ they’ve shown to their customers in becoming experts in everything from PCR testing to quarantine restrictions, while also managing the practicalities of rebooking or refunding their holidays.

He said: “The last 18 months have been incredibly tough on agents, and National Travel Agent Day is a great opportunity for us to acknowledge their commitment, dedication and skill.”

Intrepid Travel is giving away places on its first UK fam trip, to Cornwall on 13 September. More details on the Intrepid Loves Agents group on Facebook.

Intrepid is offering an exclusive 20% off on bookings for 2022 made through agents. Discounts on agents’ own holidays have also been increased to 60% for an agent and 40% for a travel companion.

Gold Medal is using the event to launch an instant giveaway, and as the springboard for a month-long campaign championing agents, called ‘Spotlight on You’.

The Spotlight on You campaign includes a National Travel Agent Day giveaway of a voucher worth £250 for the winning agent to treat themselves and their colleagues to a well-deserved night out or team building activity – simply by correctly answering a question.

The campaign also invites agents to share their best sales tips, their stories, or how they’re promoting Gold Medal’s best deals during the month. Any agent who submits a response could be featured on the Gold Medal Facebook page and win £100 worth of Farebank Rewards.

Sandals and Beaches Resorts is offering £200 off departures until 31 October, Olympic Holidays, Saint Lucia Tourism, Antigua & Barbuda Tourism and Explore are among other operators offering discounts and incentives.

Fundraising will be a key part of the day and Intrepid is inviting people across the industry to donate directly or set up a fundraising challenge here.  All money will go to Abta Lifeline or the ITAA Benevolent Fund, both charities supporting agents suffering during the pandemic.
