A 61-year-old tourist died and her daughter was seriously injured in an accident during an excursion in Costa Tequise in the east of Lanzarote on Monday.
The deceased was driving a buggy which plunged down a 20-metre drop into a ravine onto rocks.
Her daughter, aged 45, was taken to hospital in Arrecife, where she is in intensive care.
Several police patrols attended the scene of the accident, along with two ambulances and the fire service, but the 61-year-old is believed to have died instantly from the impact.
Her daughter is said to be in a ‘critical’ condition after receiving emergency treatment for her injuries, according to Canarian Weekly.
The two women are believed to be South African. The deceased was living in the UK, while her daughter is understood to have travelled from South Africa to holiday with her mum.
The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the accident.
