Danny Giles will join French cruise line Ponant as Business Development Manager for the north, Scotland and Ireland on 21 February, having previously worked for Riviera Travel, Silversea and Hurtigruten. Here he reveals a little bit more about himself in our fun, TG-style Q&A:
I never travel without…. my Kindle, I like to read to relax or read to increase my knowledge of the destination I’m visiting.
My go-to destination is… Mallorca, having worked and lived there it holds a special place in heart.
The famous person (dead or alive) I’d most like to travel with is… Sir Ernest Shackleton, known as the boss. A true leader and incredible Explorer.
My favourite hotel for a weekend away is… tough one as there are so many nice hotels but I’d say the Fitz William in Belfast is up there.
When I travel I never get tired of listening to… the announcement that my flight is boarding, I’ve missed that over the last 2 years, I’ve even missed the delays, dare I’d say.
My weakness is… Guinness & Chocolate.
The next place I’ll visit is… Somewhere within the Ponant programme, that is quite large so it could be anywhere really
My mantra is… Play to Win but always try your best.
The restaurant I’d choose for a perfect date is… House of Zen in Belfast, if you’ve been you’ll know.
The thing I’m most proud of is… other than my children, I’m very proud of TIRO (Travel Industry Recruitment Opportunities) The group was designed and set up to help others return and join the travel industry.
My biggest regret… never representing my country in Hockey.
Born and brought up in… Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset.
Live in… Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.
When I was younger, I wanted to be… a helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy. That all changed after I attended a brochure launch party for Aspro Holidays whilst on work experience from school.
The thing I miss most while travelling is… my two boys.
