A new UK-based online travel agent launched by an Italian medic is claiming to offer cheap last-minute flights.

Runtofly sells seats on flights departing from London airports within the next 24 hours.

Founder Federico Grimaccia initially launched the site in 2020 before mothballing it during the pandemic when he returned to Italy to work as a doctor.

In the meantime, he says he’s negotiated ‘the best price’ for empty seats on flights close to the time of departure.

Runtofly has fares from more than 20 airlines, he said, including easyJet and Jet2 and long-haul carriers such as United Airlines and Delta.

However, when Travel Gossip compared easyJet fares on Runtofly with, we found Runtofly was slightly more expensive.

“That’s the only airline we struggle with at the moment,” admitted Frederico. “We definitely need to do better with this.” He insisted Runtofly beat the fares available direct with other airlines such as SAS and Norwegian.

Instead of allowing users to search for flights by destination, Runtofly simply lists fares for all available flights departing within the next 24 hours.

“Runtofly’s main target audience are leisure travellers who don’t necessarily know where to go and might even need some inspiration for their travel destination: youngsters, students, backpackers, the ever-increasing, especially after the recent pandemic, crowd of those working remotely from anywhere, and more generally, anyone who has a flexible lifestyle,” said Frederico.

While flights are only available from London, he said he plans to extend the service to other UK airports and beyond.
