A Ukrainian Chief Purser and a Senior Destination Services Operations Manager have been named Godmothers of Marella Cruises’ incoming ship.

Tatyana Olkhovska, who has worked with the line since 2003, and Jacqui Nobile, who started working for TUI in 1994, will christen Marella Voyager in Malaga on 31 May.

Tatyana’s daughter, Alina, who lived in Ukraine, was recently recruited by Marella Cruises to join its Destination Services team.

Alina’s appointment means she has been working alongside her mother on Marella Explorer 2 which ‘has been a huge relief and source of comfort for them both’, the line said.

Second godmother Jacqui, who is from Kent, joined TUI as an overseas representative in Menorca before switching to cruise in 1996.

She is now part of the line’s senior leadership team and is responsible for Marella’s shoreside experience programme.

Marella Cruises highlighted both godmothers’ ‘long legacies’ working for TUI as it made the announcement.

The TUI-owned cruise line appealed to the company’s leaders to nominate the ‘most deserving staff’ before selecting Jacqui and Tatyana.

Chris Hackney, Marella Cruises’ Managing Director, said: “At Marella, we love to recognise our own dedicated staff for the important role of Godmother.

“We could have found a celebrity, but we believe our own hard-working heroes deserve the honour, and we are so proud to have Tatyana and Jacqui as Godmothers.

“Their drive and passion are a testament to their commitment to Marella Cruises and ensuring the best possible holiday experience for our guests.”
