A passenger has died after jumping overboard from Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas.

The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday 26 May, when the world’s largest cruise ship was heading to Roatan, Honduras, from its Miami homeport, just one day into its Western Caribbean cruise.

Cruise Hive reports the ship halted its course for more than two hours while crew members began a search and rescue mission.

Icon of the Seas was then able to carry on to Honduras.

Royal Caribbean told Cruise Hive: “The ship’s crew immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard and launched a search and rescue operation. Our Care Team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share.”

This article, which originally reported the passenger was in a critical condition, has been updated following reports he has since died.
