Accountancy firm PwC has imposed tough restrictions on UK staff travelling on work trips in an attempt to cut costs along with its carbon footprint.

Senior staff have been told they can only travel business class on long-haul overnight flights or for ‘business-critical’ reasons, such as a meeting on arrival, according to reports in the national press.

Otherwise, they can travel in premium economy on flights of five hours or more.

The restriction, which applies to UK partners, directors and other staff who travel with them, was introduced in October, said The Financial Times.

Previously, senior staff were allowed to travel in business class on flights of five hours or longer.

PwC has stated it is aiming for its carbon emissions to meet net zero by 2030. Flying accounted for more than two-thirds of its emissions last year.
