A company founded 31 years ago to arrange Christian pilgrimages has ceased trading as an ATOL holder.

The Civil Aviation Authority said it is currently gathering information on Southend-on-Sea-based Special Pilgrimages.

The company, which was incorporated in September 1992, also traded under the names BibleLand Tours,  Christian Greece, Christian Heritage Tours, Christian Spain, Christian Turkey, Special Pilgrimages, Special Pilgrimages Christian Tours and Wayfaring Pilgrimage.

Its website, www.special-pilgrimages.co.uk, currently has a message stating it is ‘temporarily down for maintenance’.

The company, run by Tamara, Issa and Therese Tahhan, was licensed by the CAA to carry around 1,000 passengers a year.

In a statement, the CAA said: “Special Pilgrimages Ltd – ATOL 2963 has ceased trading as an ATOL holder on 4th July 2024.

“The company based in Southend-on-Sea traded under the names BibleLand Tours, Christian Greece, Christian Heritage Tours, Christian Spain, Christian Turkey, Special Pilgrimages, Special Pilgrimages Christian Tours, Wayfaring Pilgrimages and website(s) www.special-pilgrimages.co.uk.

“We are currently collating information from the company and will update this page as soon as possible.

“Whilst waiting for further information, please do not submit a claim as these will be rejected.”
