Film footage has been shared on social media showing a lifeboat going overboard from a Royal Caribbean ship.

The video shows Quantum of the Seas’ number 12 lifeboat detaching from its davits, hitting the deck, then falling into the water, then hitting the side of the ship.

The ship was visiting Mystery Island in Vanuatu when the incident happened yesterday.

The port of call is part of Quantum of the Seas’ 10-night roundtrip South Pacific itinerary from Brisbane.

It’s not clear whether the incident happened during crew training or tendering operations, Cruise Hive reports.

“The lifeboat was retrieved, and photos clearly show large dents and cracks on the starboard aft corner of the lifeboat, as well as damage to the fiberglass underside of the lifeboat.

“Guests onboard Quantum of the Seas report that the lines were a bit longer for tendering to Mystery Island, but there appears to have been no significant delay to the ship’s itinerary,” Cruise Hive added.

Travel Gossip has approached Royal Caribbean for a comment.
