A charity founded by the Latin American Travel Association has kicked off a Christmas campaign as it seeks to raise £10,000 for communities in the region.

Donations to the LATA Foundation dwindled during the COVID pandemic. Organisers hope the festive appeal will trigger renewed interest and raise critical funds.

“While many people have suffered throughout the pandemic, the poorest areas of Latin America have been in crisis,” the foundation said. “Founded by the Latin America travel industry, the LATA Foundation has traditionally welcomed many corporate donors from the travel sector, However, given the travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, many of these donations have dried up.

“So the Foundation has created a range of Christmas gift vouchers to help raise funds for a number of important causes.”

Funds raised will support a range of initiatives in the region as well as providing urgent relief for those most-in-need via its emergency COVID appeal, established in March 2020.

Gift vouchers range from £5, enough for a pair of ballet shoes attending a dance school in Brazil, to £100 that can buy a school uniform, writing materials and exercise books for disadvantaged kids in Ecuador. Vouchers can be purchased through https://latafoundation.org/christmasgift
