Jet2 is urging travel agents not to contact the company to make changes to holiday bookings after being deluged with enquiries following yesterday’s traffic light update.
The operator said it will contact customers due to travel to amber and red list destinations directly.
“We also advise that they keep visiting the Traffic Light update section of our website,” it said in a statement, adding: “Due to the volume of enquiries we are currently receiving, we urge customers and independent travel agents not to contact us so that we can prioritise those who are due to travel.”
While yesterday’s changes to the traffic light system were minimal, many customers had been waiting for the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps’ announcement before amending their bookings to red and amber destinations.
Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy said that while the traffic light review will allow customers to continue to travel quarantine-free to more than 40 green and amber countries, he added that it ‘is nothing like a meaningful return to international travel’.
He added: “With so many areas of everyday life able to open up properly, it is frustrating that the simple concept of taking a much-needed holiday should still be subject to a different and stricter set of rules. International travel must try and operate with the handbrake applied yet so many other industries can reopen freely.
“The Traffic Light system is due for review in October, and we know this cannot come soon enough for hardworking families and customers. The system needs to be simpler and less confusing for holidaymakers, whilst opening up travel properly.”
