Italy has become the first country to make insurance mandatory for all skiers and boarders.

Everyone on the slopes is required to have winter sports insurance to cover them for any injuries or damage they might cause to other people.

Those caught skiing without a policy face a €150 fine and could have their lift pass confiscated.

Checks will reportedly be carried out by resort staff and police.
