Some 800 Heathrow workers who were planning to strike this week have postponed their walkout for two days.

The staff, who assist passengers with connecting flights and provide security and trolley services, have called off strikes today and tomorrow following discussions between their union Unite and management.

However, they are still planning industrial action on 9-13 May, depending on the outcome of any further negotiations. The union called the strike action last month in protest over what it claims are airport plans to outsource jobs.

Unite Regional Officer Wayne King said: “Heathrow Airport and Unite have been in discussions and as a goodwill gesture prior to formal talks early next we have suspended strike action on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We are calling on Heathrow to recognise the anger among our members over proposed outsourcing plans and to think again.”
