The planned strike by refuelling staff that threatened to disrupt flights at Heathrow Airport this week has been called off for the time being.

Fifty workers at Aviation Fuel Services (AFS) were due to stage a three-day walkout from 5am today, which Unite had warned would cause delays to hundreds of long-haul flights.

Talks at reconciliation service Acas yesterday resulted in a new pay offer and the union Unite is now balloting members on the proposed new deal.
